A good new direction - especially for the Spider

This is a rather lovely boxed set. I will leave other reviewers to talk about the quality, but i will say some words on the story and content.
One of the problems with Rokugan was always that every player knew every inch of it. Even the secret bad guys were well known to them and the gods themselves had come and gone, sometimes several times. One of the nice things about the second city, which sets the action in what is effectively distant India, is that everything your players know is now turned on its head or rendered mysterious.
Take eta for example, everyone took them for granted and now...they are actually quite rare. Things like simple soy sauce have become a suitable gift item for their rarity and going beyond the city limits is actually dangerous even for samurai....as well as rewarding. Even the clothing styles are changing because of the heat...summer court now and not winter court as well. Oh yes, elephants.
One of the nice things about the setting is that it details how the spider clan functions in a city, with all the tension and excitement that brings. Just dealing with the presence of this new great clan will lead to many an interesting game session, especially if a player is one of their number.
So, as they say, everything old is new again. Bring back your old legend group and they will find renewed joy in this setting.

Great Campaign, Print Errors Abound

If you like L5R you will probably like the direction that the second city takes it. It includes a number of great resources for a good campaign. The GM Shield is particularly nice and the School Technique cards really helped my players remember their techniques without writing lengthy word for word descriptions when they gained insight ranks.
That said, there were a number of printing errors. It was more than noticeable. Some areas had paragraphs from later on replacing the paragraph that should be there. One of the technique cards was missing. The Mantis Technique cards sported the Lion Mon. The list goes on. Clearly the editor did not do a great job or the project was rushed in post-production. Otherwise it is a great set.

This box set is really awesome! The artwork is fantastic and it has everything one needs to run the 2nd City campaign. I also like how it states that you can borrow stuff from the book to use in a campaign that you designed.
