I have been reading in Misses Terry Lee Stone's work for some time now. I wanted this book and her sister book for some time.
The information in the book is priceless, but the print quality is horrible. I've seen porn magazine with a better print quality. Why this comparison? Because I am disappointed. The pictures in the book are so poorly printed that you can't read the text on them.

Great Product, EXCELLENT Condition
By JennGee
I could rate this product with 5 stars , the only reason I'm choosing 4 is because it took forever to arrive and I was needing it for my class which was a great inconvenient for me. If you have time enough to wait for the delivery you will be very satisfied with the product, in my opinion nothing to envy to a brand new book. Excellent product , thank you!

An alternative view of the origins of Christianity

This book helps explain the differences between the Old and New Testament philosophies. I do not care to elaborate any further.

The influence of Buddhist scriptures on Gospels, Acts and Epistles
By Rama Rao
The authors provide an historical and scriptural evidence to show that a significant part of New Testament was influenced by the Buddhist literature and the Acts of Buddha. This book focuses on sacred text and does not deal directly with the facts that Jesus' spent several years in Kashmir, India, when it was under the influence of Buddhist and Jain teachings. The flow of Buddhist thought occurred at three main levels, the Buddhist missionaries carrying the message of Buddha into Egypt, Syria and Palestine are well documented in the history, especially during and after Emperor Asoka. Strong trade relationship help bring the Vedic and Upanishadic culture into the Middle East, and finally Jesus' life in Kashmir, India brought him closer to the wisdom of Buddha and the teachings of Upanishads.

The views of Jesus presented in Sermon on the Mount directly calls to mind an inner relationship with Buddha's teachings. Both Buddha and Jesus warn their followers about false prophets. The parallels between Buddhist thought and certain New Testament stories; Jesus' parables and his sayings are not new. For example, Buddha said "whosoever sees dharma, see me." Christ in the Gospel according to John says; "He that seeth me, seeth Him that sent me" (John 12:45). The dharma is the greatest cosmic law underlying the world, corresponding to the concept of the Word, the Logos, in the Gospel which begins by declaring, "The Word was God."

The genealogical trees of Jesus point to royal origins (similar to Buddha), as described in the Gospel of Matthew. The circumstance surrounding the birth of Jesus is similar to that of Krishna of Mahabharata. There are a number of parallels to the stories of Jesus' childhood and Buddha as described in Lalitavistara, and Nidanakatha. Two famous miracles is known to be performed by Jesus was taken from Buddhists precedents; the loaves and the fishes (Mathew 14:15-21; Mark 6:35-44, and Luke 9:13-17). This originates from the introduction to Jataka 78. In this miracle, Buddha satisfied the hunger of 500 inhabitants of a monastery, and some bread remained. According to New Testament accounts Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fishes. Jesus' walking on water episode described in Mark 6:52 and its similarities with Buddha walking on water is striking. Many similarities in these two stories are listed by theologian Norbert Klatt. The Buddhist scriptures of Dighanikaya and the Majjhimanikaya describes Buddha walking on water and in Mahavamsa, Buddha crosses the Ganges. In an episode described in Mahavagga, Buddha's disciple, Kassapa sees Buddha walking on water, fearful about Buddha, Kassapa asks, "Are you there, great mendicant monk?" "It is I, Kassapa" Buddha replied, calming him down. Jesus' disciples also feared that they saw a ghost after seeing Jesus walking on water, to them Jesus replies, "It is I" (Mark 6:50 and John 6:20). In Matthew 14:28-33, Apostle Peter also tries to walk on the water but starts to sink. This episode is surprisingly similar to the introduction to Jataka 190, where Sariputta, a disciple of Buddha attempts to walk on water of river Aciravati and begins to sink by a strong wave. When he regains control of himself and start meditating deeply, he could walk on water.

Buddha always treated everyone equally irrespective of their caste or social status. Jesus was equal in this respect. In one episode, Buddha draws anger of upper class followers when he accepts a courtesan's invitation for a dinner. Jesus also made similar gestures and goodwill by accommodating less fortunate and oppressed people in the society. Another story that is illuminating is the story of Ananda and Prakriti and its similarities to Jesus in John 4:5-42. While travelling through the countryside, Ananda, the disciple of Buddha feels thirsty and approaches a well and ask a Matangi girl named Prakriti for a drink of water. When she expresses fear that she belongs to a lower caste and she can not approach a holy man, Ananda responds, "my sister, I am not asking about your caste or your family; I am asking whether you can give some water to drink" (Divyavadana 217). This story is similar to Jesus' encounter at Jacob's well near Sychar in Samaria where he asks for some drinking water. The woman of Samaria replies, "How is that thou, being a Jew, asking drink from me, a woman of Samaria." Jesus says, if she knew who he was, she would ask him for a drink and he would give her "living water" (John 4:5-42). In his instruction to his disciples, Jesus says, "in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me" (Matthew 25:40). This is similar to Buddha's instructions, "anyone, O monks, who want to stand by me, should stand by the afflicted" (Mahavagga 8, 26.3)

Jesus first public appearance has many similarities with that of Buddha. After leaving his palace, Siddhartha sought teachers and join Rudraka the Brahmin. When young Siddhartha realizes that his teachings would not lead to liberation and insight; he decides go into wilderness in order to attain realization through strict asceticism. Five of Rudraka's followers join him but when Siddhartha gives up fasting and ascetic excesses realizing that would not lead him into his objective: His followers leave him thinking that he has given up search for redemption. Jesus also becomes the disciple of John the Baptist, a strict ascetic and penitent of his time. He gets baptized and then goes into wilderness and fasts; some of the disciples of John the Baptist follow him. Soon Jesus also gives up ascetic excesses. "John came neither eating nor drinking.....The son of man came eating and drinking..." (Matthew 11:18-19). Jesus' radical view included rejection of baptism and John's strict asceticism; instead he preached love, tolerance and harmony like Buddha and won many followers.

The influence of Upanishads and Vedanta also had some impact on epistles. Jesus expresses the idea of the unity of Atman and Brahman in the words; "I and Father are One" (John 10:30). The evangelist John also viewed everyone as god's equal; "I said, ye are gods" (John 10:34).

GOOD RESEACH MISSAPPLIED WITH PARTIALITY
By A Customer
Although the scholarly research in this work is laudable, the authors seem to have been caught up in a couple of prejedicial problems. The first one deals with attempting to give many parallels for the New testamant from Hindu sources, while largely avoiding the word "Hinduism" by simply and repeatedly calling them "Indian Sources". And in the same vein, although Lord Krishna's name was mentioned once (as some ancient god),very unscholarly. The Gita, oneof the world's greatest scriptues, and no doubt known to theBuddha, would weigh heavily in this subject. But was it mentioned or did I miss it? Krishna's name was also omitted from the "people" list at the back of the book. I believe the ancient records indicate that Jesus would have had more than sufficient experience with the great Hindu Yogis during his lengthy India visit, this would be the real source of many comparisons the authors' use, and very little data found its way into the NT from influences of Buddhistic origins of the Middle East. JESUS, like so many others through ancient history, well knew about the GREAT YOGIS of INDIA (Pythagoras and Appolonious etc), and when they made such a long treck, would not stop at only other schools along the way, they usually sought out the most prominent Masters and Yogis, as well as the original sources of the VEDAS,UPANISHADS,GITA ETC. No doubt they would encounter others as well, but the slant these authors give this whole subject, is remeniscent of the same onesided approached indulged in by many of those in the early church establishment. FINALLY, one can surely find certain major problems in the holy writ of any of the great religions - the least of which is translation to another language. But history has shown that even in works that may be less than perfect, the power and influence of that illusive original Jesus, has produced many Christlike beings, eg. Padre Pio of Italy. And surely effected the lives of untold millions, I doubt that one of JESUS strong concepts, ! that of the personal "Heavenly Father", came from Buddhist influence, as they seem to follow a concept of the universal impersonal mind only. The mentions of other such matters as reincarnation are clearly from Hindu Origins.

ISIS jihadists have infiltrated the U.S. They are planning to launch catastrophic attacks inside American cities that could make the horrors of 9/11 pale by comparison. But Collins has uncovered only part of the story. The full truth may be worse than the American people’s darkest fears. And the consequences may be harder than Collins is prepared to imagine. From the flap:“Last night, enemies of the United States unleashed a cruel and cowardly attack. . . .”After ISIS terrorists attack the U.S. Capitol building during the president’s State of the Union address, the entire world waits to see how the most powerful nation on earth will respond. But the Taylor administration is more committed to political correctness than to justice, and it falls to other nations to lead the way in hunting down Abu Khalif, the criminal and religious mastermind who heads the Islamic State. When New York Times journalist J. B. Collins, reeling from a tragedy closer to home, suddenly finds himself in possession of vital information that could help in the search, he is once again thrust into the crosshairs of global politics. But this time it’s personal. As he joins the hunt for the world’s most wanted and dangerous man, his quest takes him from Bar Harbor, Maine, to Tel Aviv to Cairo to Istanbul and beyond. Through it all, he has one goal: find Abu Khalif and hold him accountable for his terrible actions. But the clock is ticking, and more attacks are coming. Will Collins locate the ISIS emir before it’s too late? He will stop at nothing to do so. But at what cost?

An Entertaining Read to the Last Page
By William Struse
This was Joel Rosenberg in his finest form!

I started Without Warning this evening with the idea of reading just a few chapters. It’s now 3am, I’m bleary eyed and wondering where the past 6 hours have gone. I’ve read many of Mr. Rosenberg’s books over the years and next to the Copper Scroll this was my favorite. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with Book II but Without Warning was a fantastic and believable read to the very end. Talk about a page turner. Wow.

For this third and final installment in the J.B. Collins series Mr. Rosenberg, in his unique way, takes current events and weaves a heart pounding thriller which makes you think seriously about the issues of our day. Even if you are not interested in politics, terrorism, international relations, Israel or spiritual issues this was just a well written and entertaining read.

And just about the time you think you've figured out the plot, Mr. Rosenberg throws in a twist that will leave you speechless.

"...If you aren't already a fan of Rosenberg's you will be by the time you finish "Without Warning."
By Gail Welborn
"Without Warning," Joel C. Rosenberg's long anticipated conclusion to the bestselling and I suspect award winning J.B. Collins series, releases March 14. The complex political thriller mirrors current global events with an action-packed account that includes a religious madman, apocalyptic Islam, "catastrophic terror attacks inside the American homeland," a budding love story and so much more.

Readers join journalist J.B. Collins in the Oval office where he waits for the president to finalize the State of the Union speech for the joint session of Congress. Collins knows the president's popularity is soaring in the polls after his recent rescue in the Middle East ("First Hostage" 2016) yet he suspect's the president has "been blindsided by an enemy he neither truly understands nor sees coming." Especially ISIS leader, Abu Khalif who continues to behead, crucify and enslave "men, women and children who get in his way."

Collins, the only westerner who interviewed Khalif and knows what he looks like, believes the "world's most wanted and dangerous man" is underestimated by the president. Since their interview Collins knows nothing will discourage Khalif's belief he's been "chosen by Allah to bring about the end of the world" and that will usher in the prophesied Islamic messiah—the Mahdi..

During the interview Khalif assured Collins he intended to raise the black flag of ISIS over the White House and Collins knew the president's commitment to political correctness and his inability to name the enemy emboldened the "religious mastermind." Only one thing would stop the madman! And the presidents invitation to the Oval office was the perfect moment for Collins to ask: "Do you have a plan to kill Abu Khalif or not?"

Thus begins a powerful political fiction with strong religious overtones from an author whose attention to research and detail is spellbinding. Short chapters with cliff-hanger endings add relentless suspense and tension that builds to a stunning conclusion. In addition to Rosenberg's personal experience and detailed knowledge of the Middle East that adds additional subtle nuances, depth and dimension to a fast moving, multilayered, interweaving plot that keeps readers riveted. If you aren't already a fan of Rosenberg's you will be by the time you finish "Without Warning."

Make sure you aren't busy when you start this book - you won't want to put it down.
By Tom
Mr. Rosenberg is my personal favorite novelist. Certainly of those alive today. I waited a long time to get this book and picked it up the day of its release.

When you start reading the book just make sure you're not busy and have a few days to just stay focused on the read. Because you really will have a hard time finding many stopping points where you'll be ok to put it down for a while.

I won't give away anything about the book - but the ending will surprise some. Because I know Mr. Rosenberg's style I picked up on the ending target a little early. I enjoyed the read as I always do.

The only reason I gave it four stars was I could tell Mr. Rosenberg was getting some pressure to finish the book from his publisher because near the end I felt as though he moved way to quickly. The story seemed to stop suddenly and pick up later and at times it felt a tad "rushed" to finish.

But overall I loved the book and will be paitently Mr. Rosenberg's next novel.

My life looked pretty good on the outside. I'm a preacher's kid who was basically born and raised in church. I came to know God as a kid, got serious about Him as a teen, then changed my mind and strayed, but came back to Him as a young adult. I loved the Lord and chose to have a relationship with Him but I struggled, for many years, to have a committed walk.

Introduction

This short book is meant to lay out the essentials of the Christian message, the gospel. It can, therefore, serve as an introduction to the Christian faith for those who are unfamiliar with its teachings or who may have been away from them for some time.

This volume is not just for seekers, however. Many lifelong Christian believers feel they understand the basics of the Christian faith quite well and don't think they need a primer. Nevertheless, one of the signs that you may not grasp the unique, radical nature of the gospel is that you are certain that you do. Sometimes longtime church members find themselves so struck and turned around by a fresh apprehension of the Christian message that they feel themselves to have been essentially "re-converted." This book, then, is written to both curious outsiders and established insiders of the faith, both to those Jesus calls "younger brothers" and those he calls "elder brothers" in the famous Parable of the Prodigal Son.

I am turning to this familiar story, found in the fifteenth chapter of the gospel of St. Luke, in order to get to the heart of the Christian faith. The parable's plot and dramatis personae are very simple. There was a father who had two sons. The younger asked for his share of the inheritance, received it, and promptly left for a far country, where he squandered it all on sensual and frivolous pleasure. He returned home penitently and, to his surprise, was received with open arms by his father. This reception alienated and angered the elder brother greatly. The story closes with the father appealing to his firstborn son to join in the welcome and forgiveness of his younger brother.

On the surface of it, the narrative is not all that gripping. I believe, however, that if the teaching of Jesus is likened to a lake, this famous Parable of the Prodigal Son would be one of the clearest spots where we can see all the way to the bottom. Many excellent studies have been written on this Biblical text over the last several years, but the foundation for my understanding of it was a sermon I first heard preached over thirty years ago by Dr. Edmund P. Clowney. Listening to that sermon changed the way I understood Christianity. I almost felt I had discovered the secret heart of Christianity. Over the years I have often returned to teach and counsel from the parable. I have seen more people encouraged, enlightened, and helped by this passage, when I explained the true meaning of it, than by any other text.

I once traveled overseas and delivered this sermon to an audience through an interpreter. Some time later the translator wrote to tell me that, as he was preaching the sermon, he had realized that the parable was like an arrow aimed at his heart. After a period of wrestling and reflection, it brought him to faith in Christ. Many others have told me that this story of Jesus, once they came to understand it, saved their faith, their marriages, and, sometimes literally, their lives.

In the first five chapters I will unlock the parable's basic meaning. In Chapter 6 I will demonstrate how the story helps us understand the Bible as a whole, and in Chapter 7 how its teaching works itself out in the way we live in the world.

I will not use the parable's most common name: the Parable of the Prodigal Son. It is not right to single out only one of the sons as the sole focus of the story. Even Jesus doesn't call it the Parable of the Prodigal Son, but begins the story saying, "a man had two sons." The narrative is as much about the elder brother as the younger, and as much about the father as the sons. And what Jesus says about the older brother is one of the most important messages given to us in the Bible. The parable might be better called the Two Lost Sons.

The word "prodigal" does not mean "wayward" but, according to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, "recklessly spendthrift." It means to spend until you have nothing left. This term is therefore as appropriate for describing the father in the story as his younger son. The father's welcome to the repentant son was literally reckless, because he refused to "reckon" or count his sin against him or demand repayment. This response offended the elder son and most likely the local community.

In this story the father represents the Heavenly Father Jesus knew so well. St. Paul writes: "God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses" (2 Corinthians 5:19 – American Standard Version). Jesus is showing us the God of Great Expenditure, who is nothing if not prodigal toward us, his children. God's reckless grace is our greatest hope, a life-changing experience, and the subject of this book.

Excellent!
By Brian G Hedges
"This short book is meant to lay out the essentials of the Christian message, the gospel." So begins Timothy Keller's new book The Prodigal God: Recovering the Heart of the Christian Faith. Keller targets both seekers who are unfamiliar with the gospel and longtime church members who may not feel the need for a primer on the gospel.

Keller's book, as the provocative title suggests, is built on one of Jesus' most famous stories: the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15). Keller consents that "on the surface of it, the narrative is not all that gripping." But, he contends that "if the teaching of Jesus is likened to a lake, this famous Parable of the Prodigal Son would be one of the clearest spots where we can see all the way to the bottom." Keller has taught from this passage many times over the years, and says, "I have seen more people encouraged, enlightened, and helped by this passage, when I explained the true meaning of it, than by any other text."

The book is laid out in seven brief chapters which aim to uncover the extravagant (prodigal) grace of God, as revealed in this parable. Keller shows how the parable describes two kinds of "lost" people, not just one. Most people can identify the lostness of the "prodigal son," the younger brother in Jesus' story, who takes his inheritance early and squanders it on riotous living. But Keller shows that the "elder brother" in the parable is no less lost. Together, the two brothers are illustrations of two kinds of people in the world. "Jesus uses the younger and elder brothers to portray the two basic ways people try to find happiness and fulfillment: the way of moral conformity and the way of self-discovery." Both brothers are in the wrong, and when we see this, we discover a radical redefinition of what is wrong with us. "Nearly everyone defines sin as breaking a list of rules. Jesus, though, shows us that a man who has violated nothing on the list of moral misbehaviors may be every bit as spiritually lost as the most profligate, immoral person. Why? Because sin is not just breaking the rules, it is putting yourself in the place of God as Savior, Lord and Judge just as each son sought to displace the authority of the father in his own life." As these quotes hint, Keller's exposition of the two sons lays the groundwork for a penetrating analysis and critique of both moral relativists on the liberal left and religious moralists on the conservative right, showing that the latter are just as lost as the former. What both need is Jesus, whom Keller presents as "the true elder brother," the one who comes to our rescue at his own expense. Through his grace, we are given hope and invited to the great feast of the Father.

As with Keller's preaching, this book is intelligent and winsome, combining thoughtful reflection on both text and culture with searching heart application. Keller's book is effectively illustrated with a liberal use of stories and quotations from literature, movies, and the arts. Most imporantly, the book orients the reader's heart to the hope of the gospel of God's grace revealed in Christ.

One more note: for readers who may have felt intimidated by Keller's recent book The Reason for God, don't shrink away from The Prodigal God. It is probably only 1/3 of the length and much easier to read. I highly recommend it to unbelievers, seekers and established Christians.

The 2 lost brothers
By Jackie Knowles
Salvation by sheer grace has an infinite cost. This book shows that in the parable of the prodigal son, both sons are lost. The younger son didn’t really care about the father; he just wanted his share to spend it on wild living while the elder son was obedient and compliant so that he was his own savior. They were both alienated from the father. The point of the parable is forgiveness involves a price. When the younger son was received he was fully restored to the status of heir once again, therefore the now depleted property was all the elder brothers so the elder brother had to pay for the younger brothers restoration.

This book was an excellent example of the out of the box thinking. It encourages the reader to examine our inner-heart motives. We must determine to live out the changes the gospel creates in our hearts otherwise our hearts will go back to the default mode of religion. In reading about the character of the elder brother I realized he displays narcissistic traits. So check it out.

A Good Read and Good for Sermons
By Matthew Morine
A lot of the books I read on here are for my personal study, and my personal interests, hence the chess books, but this book was for a sermon series that I have developed on the Prodigal Son parable. I have planned a years worth of sermons, so before I start a new series of lessons, I begin to read about the topic. This was why I selected to book. I wanted to blend something that was popular level with some scholarly reading on this parable. This book was insightful, and practical, and easy to read. I have never read any of Keller's material before, and left this book impressed. He is a good author, and does his homework in the text. The book tells the story of the Prodigal Son, though he notes that this is perhaps not the best title for the parable. The book looks at the major characters of the parable, which was helpful because that was the way I developed the series of lessons. He does a good job of highlighting the point of the parable within the attitude of the older brother, and using some of Willimon's material, of preaching to the baptized, this created a lot of connection to the text. A lot of the people in church will agree with the sinner coming home, but demonstrating the attitude of the older brother is the common sin in numerous church pews. The book does a good job of bridging the ancient social context with the modern world. This book helped with the sermon series and it would be a good book just to read on its own. It is short, interesting, and good.

The Atlas of Shipwrecks & Treasure: The History, Location, and Treasures of Ships Lost at Sea, by Nigel Pickford

The first comprehensive illustrated guide to ships lost at sea and the treasures they have yielded, capturing the romance and the risks of treasure hunting. From Roman ships laden with bronze statues to the gold--carrying blockade runners of World War II, this highly illustrated historical atlas is the first comprehensive guide to ships lost at sea and the treasures that have yielded. Tales of shipwrecks. The Atlas features spellbinding accounts of 40 of the most significant shipwrecks of all time. These accounts reveal how and why the ships sank and describe the often extraordinary feats of salvage accomplished through the centuries. There are tales of Chinese junks lost in the shark--infested waters of the South China Sea; of Spanish galleons laden with jewels; of prospectors in pursuit of gold around the world. Salvaged treasure. The Atlas is sumptuously illustrated with photographs of treasure salvaged from the wrecks, including rare coins, precious porcelain, finely crafted jewelry, and even mercury. Illustrations of diving equipment through the ages explain the development of salvage and underwater archaeology. Exquisite thematic maps. Beautiful hand--drawn maps illustrate the seas and oceans of the world during the different historical periods. They highlight the trade routes and ports of an era, detail the cargoes carried, show the notorious black holes that have bedeviled shipping, and plot the positions of some of the most remarkable shipwrecks. Comprehensive gazetteer. Twenty full--color maps plot the sites of over 1,400 wrecks around the world, showing the depths at which they lie. Accompanying profiles give details of the date on which each ship went down, its cargo, and any salvage attempts so far. Many of the wrecks still lie there on the ocean bed, their treasure awaiting recovery. Expertly researched and lavishly illustrated, this outstanding world history of shipwrecks will fire the imagination of everyone who is drawn to the risks and romance of treasure hunting.

YA?An oversized treasure of a book, packed with illustrations, photographs, maps, and possibilities. Chronology runs from the Bronze Age through the Vikings, the Chinese, Levantine and Portuguese trades, the Armada, pirates and East India men, and the Titanic and Andrea Doria wrecks, ending with the 1944 sinking of the John Barry. Part Two is a gazetteer that surveys over 1,400 shipwrecks around the world. The information is detailed, showing the depths at which the sunken ships lie, routes taken, cargo carried, and detail on salvaging efforts. This is a book that immediately catches the eye, while perusal stimulates the imagination.?Frances Reiher, Kings Park Library, Fairfax, VA

From Library Journal
Pickford, whose father worked as a researcher for an English salvage company involved in nearly 100 operations, here chronicles shipwrecks from the Bronze Age to the Vikings, then moves on to Chinese junks, the Levantine trade, the Portuguese and Spanish plate fleets, pirates, gold rush paddle-steamers, and, finally, to the Titanic and other modern ships. To be included, wrecks must have been laden with treasure. Colorful maps detail the historical trade routes and pinpoint the wrecks. A gazetteer surveys over 1400 shipwrecks around the world, including many that have yet to be salvaged; each is briefly described in the "Shipwreck Listings" section. A good history and a welcome reference for treasure seekers. Highly recommended for public libraries.

From Booklist
Though the jacket proclaims this as "the first comprehensive guide to ships lost at sea and the treasures they have yielded," Pickford's introduction more modestly and accurately states that, because of the lack of records over the vast ages and areas involved," no book on this subject could pretend to be totally comprehensive." Defining a treasure ship broadly as "any ship used to transport a high-value cargo of precious metals or artifacts that do not lose their value when immersed for long periods in salt water," Pickford, a professional shipwreck researcher, provides illuminating text set in a sea of illustrations. The result is a book that is a fine starting point for shipwreck research as well as a browsable coffee-table book, because of the graphics for which Dorling Kindersley is esteemed.

The atlas is divided into two main parts. The first, "Shipwrecks," examines 40 significant shipwrecks in two-page spreads combining text with profuse use of photographs and other illustrations. These shipwrecks are arranged into 14 groupings including "The Vikings," "Chinese Junks," and "Pirates and Privateers"; each has its own lavish introductory two-page spread. The book's second main part, "Gazetteer," has two sections: maps and shipwreck listings. The 20 double-page maps locate by number more than 1,400 shipwrecks, indicating for each relative sea depths in yards and meters, date of sinking, and whether or not some salvage history is known. The shipwreck listings indicates, where known, the ship's name and location on a map in the atlas, date of sinking, nationality, tonnage, location, route, cargo, and salvage record.

Concluding the book are a glossary and a bibliography of about 100 entries each, as well as an index. That the index refers not at all to the 34 pages of shipwreck listings in part 2 makes it difficult to easily locate specific information, such as the cargo of the Titanic or the captain of the San Juan, in that section. The Lusitania, perhaps failing to meet the author's broad definition of treasure ship, escapes mention anywhere in the book.

Recommended as a seaworthy addition to public, academic, and elementary and secondary school libraries for both reference and browsing.
